May 2025 Events:

Details of any additional trips will added when confirmed.

13th May (Tuesday)

Visit to Exbury Gardens and steam railway

Please note that due to insufficient bookings, this is now a Drive-yourself trip.

Please arrive at Exbury by 10:15am to meet the oraniser who will buy the required tickets and hand them out.

Exbury’s gardens, designed and curated by the de Rothschild family, are renowned for spring colour, set apart from other gardens by the world-famous collection of rhododendrons and azaleas.  These stunning shrubs are at their height in May, lining the paths with elegant flowers.

We have included the train ride which is on an extended 1.5mile track through the gardens, meandering through the Summer Lane Garden (only accessible by train) before skirting past the Rock Garden, travelling through the tunnel and then stopping off at Exbury North to refuel. The return journey includes a loop around Dragonfly Pond, where passengers can watch out for wildlife, before heading back to Exbury Central.

Book on Eventbrite, using the link you should have recently received from John Ferris.

26th May (Monday)

Coach trip to Crofton Beam Engine House on a Steam Day

Depart Hursley 9:30am

Booking numbers were below the number required to make this trip viable.  We are sorry, but we therefore have had to cancel this trip!

This visit will be on one of the rare days when the beam engines are being run with steam.  The coach will take us to the site, where we can get light snacks and enjoy a walk along the scenic canal tow-path.

A visit to Crofton Beam Engines is a journey into the heart of industrial history.  The site offers a rare opportunity to see original steam engines.  Learn about the engineering marvels of the past, and enjoy the beautiful setting of Wiltshire.  Whether you are a history buff, a family looking for an educational outing, or simply someone seeking a unique experience, Crofton Beam Engines provide an unforgettable visit. For more details, see: croftonbeamengines.org

The coach will then take us to the only working windmill in Wessex, close to Crofton on the hill above the village of Wilton.  There you can enjoy a picnic or buy a meal, and look at the Grade II listed windmill.  We will stay long enough for you to take a tour of the windmill if you wish (about £3 at the door).  For more details of the Windmill see: wiltonwindmill.co.uk
